In October 2002, Auxilium received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to market Testim. Testim is approved for use in treating men with hypogonadism, or low testosterone. This is a condition marked by lower-than-normal levels of testosterone production in men. According to a recent prospective study of over 2,100 men, it was projected that as many as 13 million men in the United States have this condition.1 In some men, low testosterone levels have been linked to reduced energy, irritability, a loss in sexual desire, decreased muscle mass, loss of bone mass, and increased body fat.
