In October 2002, Auxilium received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to market Testim. Testim is approved for use in treating men with hypogonadism, or low testosterone. This is a condition marked by lower-than-normal levels of testosterone production in men. According to a recent prospective study of over 2,100 men, it was projected that as many as 13 million men in the United States have this condition.¹ In some men, low testosterone levels have been linked to reduced energy, irritability, a loss in sexual desire, decreased muscle mass, loss of bone mass, and increased body fat.
